Recent Texas State graduate continues family legacy

Graduating summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in public relations and mass communication last December, Allison Jones was proud to be part of a strong family legacy of Texas State University alumni.

Dr. Vishag Badrinarayanan, a professor in the Department of Marketing at Texas State University, recently accepted the Stephen R. (Steve) Gregg, Sr. Excellence Professorship for outstanding record of teaching, research and service. Dr. Badrinarayanan has been at Texas State since 2005, and serves as the assistant chair.

Students design mobile apps for inclusion and mobility

A group of students under the School of Art and Design teamed up to design different mobile apps related to inclusion and mobility. Each team member designed their own app for a specific marginalized group in mind. One of the team members, Jazmine Beatty, designed an app for the organization called Black Girls Rock!.

Texas State faculty and students research animal contracted diseases and prevention

Brittany Myrhang, a Texas State senior studying biology, assisted Associate Professor Dr. Ivan Castro-Arellano and graduate student Houston Kims in their research involving hantaviruses and other zoonotic diseases. The research focuses on how animals contract and transfer these high mortality diseases to humans, particularly to children and the elderly in third-world countries.

“For our research in particular, finding out how these animals contract these diseases is the best way of prevention,”

Graduate students are conducting research on multiracial students at Texas State

Graduate students Alicia Stites and Mohammad Khan are conducting research on multiracial and biracial students at Texas State University. The purpose of the study is to understand the experiences and environment that help biracial and multiracial students better understand their multiple racial identities.

Texas State twirler performs outside assisted-living facility in Tyler

Kaylee Williams, a sophomore majoring in computer science and a featured twirler for the Bobcat Marching Band, recently performed for residents in the Atria Copeland assisted-living facility in Tyler.

Since residents of the facility are elderly and therefore more at-risk from the spread of Coronavirus, she donned her uniform and kept a safe distance, performing outside on the lawn of the facility where residents could watch from their windows.

FedEx Freight hosts a boardroom experience for students at Texas State

FedEx Freight has been visiting universities nationwide to offer students the opportunity to network with a diverse group of executives and learn how they engage and operate in the boardroom. The Office of Student Diversity and Inclusion helped coordinate this interactive experience for students at Texas State University.

The Academy provides a community for underrepresented identities

The Academy is a student-centered academic program housed in the Office of Student Diversity and Inclusion (SDI) at Texas State University. Since the fall 2019 semester, the program has offered one-on-one peer and group academic support with a focus on STEM courses. The program is open to any Texas State student but highlights the importance of helping underrepresented identities.

Faraz Moghimi, a Texas State graduate student pursuing his Master’s in Engineering, conducted research on the economic prospect of vertical farming as a possibly more sustainable way of agriculture.

International graduate student conducts research for a multi-modal emotion recognition model

Rezwan Matin, a graduate student pursuing his master’s degree in Engineering conducted research to create a multi-modal emotion recognition model that will be able to identify human emotions in conversations. The model is aimed towards children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), who struggle to identify human emotions.
